Club members show their appreciation for the men and women of the military through a letter writing service project.
Club members from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV write letters to our brave and selfless deployed military men and women serving our country. The Club kids wanted to show them that their great sacrifices have not been forgotten by us.
“Dear soldier. I hope you come home soon. Thank you for defending our country.”
Hundreds of “Dear soldier” letters were written over the last month by Club members. It is the club members’ way of showing their appreciation to the men and women.
The letter-writing project was done in honor of Independence Day. Mana de Hidalgo County collected and mailed the letters.
“It’s really been great to have all the kids’ participation in this project, and I know the soldiers are going to be pleased with so many letters from so many kids here,” said Sabrina Walker Hernandez, Chief Professional Officer.
“I bet you feel like a hero. You’re friend Amaya.”
For ten-year-old Amaya this is not the first time writing to a soldier overseas. The last time it was her farther.
“When he was in Iraq, my family missed him very much and when he came home it was right before Thanksgiving,” she said.
She knows the simple joy letters of appreciation bring to these military men and women.
“When the soldier gets this letter, I want him to be happy.”
